About Me& My Journey

Hi! My name is Sabrina and I am a participating fellow of FIU’s 2018 Global Health Study Abroad Program. I am current an undergraduate student at FIU working towards my B.A in psychology, however I am pursuing a career as a physical therapist.

I chose psychology as my undergraduate major because I feel that emotional well-being is just as important as physical well-being when it comes to establishing overall health. Psychology provides me with that window into interpreting behavior and in hopefully providing my future patients with guidance in seeking help when feeling defeated and awareness of the importance of emotional well-being. That is why my focus of interest throughout my learning experience in Mysore, will be observing the application of holistic medicine as a modern day medical practice and noting it’s prevalence in comparison to conventional medicine.

More specifically, I will be exploring Ayurvedic medicine. Ayurvedic medicine is a type of holistic healing system that incorporates multiple healing mediums to reach optimal health. (You can read more about it in my Pre-Departure Critique). It originates in India, so being able to explore it in its country of origin is an opportunity I am very grateful for and excited about!
